Production Design

Geraldine gave us a lecture on production designers & how they are the centre force in film. A product designer directs the visuals & concentrates on the location, lighting, sound & set. This lecture helped me to realise the importance of production design & how much thought & consideration goes into creating the perfect mis en scene for our film to engage the audience & provoke an emotion.
The lecture also made me realise how important the music is & not to overlook it because it can drive the narrative & make film so much powerful & effective. We were originally concentrating on just using Marilyn Mansons 'The Nobodies' but now I think it would be a good idea to cross fade a variety of tracks.
Product designers are usually inspired by art, for example Kave Quinn takes a lot of her influence from the artist Edward Hopper so I want to direct some attention to artists for inspiration.
We watched some snippets from films such as 'Performance' and 'Don't Look Now' by Nicolas Roeg, directed in the 70s. I really like the saturated colour in 'Don't Look Now'. This look was achieved by getting the actors to wear grey toned costumes & so that red attributes would stand out.
